We don’t know about you, but we dig it whenever we find sleeper cars lurking about the place. They have that aspect of cunning, that demeanor that belies the real nature of the beast.
Such is the case with the ’36 Packard Coupe seen here from RK Motors Charlotte, which has all the apparent grace and elegance of those old high-brow automobiles of the 20s and 30s, like Cadillacs and Duesenbergs. But this one mixes it with a deadly dose of severe and overwhelming horsepower, the likes of which would have left many engineers from that era with spinning heads.
That’s thanks to a killer 514 cubic-inch Ford V8 resting under the hood, mated to a host of performance parts, including aluminum SVO “Cobra-Jet” heads, forged pistons, a Ford Motorsport intake plane, and a set of ceramic-coated custom headers. The roughly 600 horses that motor generates are transmitted to a Ford 9-inch rearend, by way of a C6 3-speed automatic transmission.
All that power comes at very little cost to the makeup of the car, as it still retains its original frame and rear suspension configuration. Aesthetically, it also blends together a lot better than it used to, with wispy chrome bumperettes front and rear, stainless mesh hood vents, and bite-sized mirrors on either side. The paint, for its own part, looks incredible alongside the gold pinstriping that adorns the contours and trunk lid.
Any car that can combine looks and power is a winner in our books, and we feel this Packard should find the right collector for the right price: $99,900. Find it on the RK Motors Charlotte website now to view a more in-depth gallery and description.
