Edelbrock has promised to bring out the largest selection of new race products in 2012, and we’ve gotten a taste of what’s to come at the SEMA tradeshow in Las Vegas. According to Edelbrock’s National Sales Manager Cary Redman, “We’ve been working with some of the top names in racing to design new products that will deliver unremarkable performance.”
We’ve been working with some of the top names in racing to design new products that will deliver unremarkable performance.
The new manifold is designed for use on the Edelbrock Big Victor, Dart Big Chief or Profiler Raptor cylinder heads. The Big Victor 2’s new runner design makes it a must have for a standard deck (9.8″ height) are are recommended for use on large displacement, high revving engines. As the name implies, the manifold is designed for BBC engines using spread port style cylinder heads, like the Edelbrock Big Victor, Dart Big Chief, Profilier Raptor or Brodix Big Duke cylinder heads, and are manufactured for serious competition applications only.
Because the Big Victor 2 is intended for racing applications, they do not have provisions for chokes and emission components.
Redman told us that the recommended carburetor for this manifold would be “an appropriate 4500 series racing carburetor,” adding “testing has shown that additional torque is available with the use of a one-inch open carburetor spacer and most likely port matching the carb pad to the spacer to eliminate any air reductions would add some performance.”
Redman also mentioned that port matching the runners to the cylinder head, proper selection of gaskets and checking the end seal clearance are required for best results.
These manifolds will be available to the public on Edelbrock’s webpage shortly, but till then, you can dream about moving this volume of air through your BBC beast. From what we’ve seen, if you can’t get enough air to your motor from this cavernous manifold, you should probably be registered with the EPA as a mass air consumer.
