Modular 10 Rib Front Drive
When making a lot of power through a serpentine belt drive system, you need all the traction you can get. Ford Racing has designed a front drive system that can be purchased separately from the crate engine, and features mounting provisions for eliminating the alternator or switching to an electric water pump – all in one part number.
Looking to make around 1,000 hp from a Ford Racing manufactured crate engine? Well, look no further than the new low compression 5.0 Aluminator long block and Whipple 2.9L 10-rib drive kit. The crate engine is essentially a Aluminator long block that was announced earlier this year, but with a different set of headers, a supercharger replacing the intake manifold, and BOSS CNC ported heads (the Aluminator only has BOSS valve springs).
To recap, the Aluminator engine is a bit of a smorgasbord of different engine parts pulled from throughout the V8 lineup. Within the aluminum engine block (borrowed from the standard 5.0 found in the Mustang GT) are Mahle forged pistons and Manley forged connecting rods for absorbing higher horsepower levels. These pistons, combined with the BOSS heads, makes a compression ratio of about 9.5:1.
As we mentioned before, the cylinder heads are replaced with BOSS CNCed pieces over the standard Aluminator long block, along with custom spec cams that allow this motor to turn over 8,000 RPM without issues. The shorty-style factory headers are also replaced with American Racing 1-7/8ths long tube headers. The 2.9L Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger with 10-rib drive system comes with a unique snout length and 3.5-inch supercharger pulley that is designed to work with the new accessory mounting plate and ATI balancer. The supercharger’s intake manifold is also port matched to the BOSS CNCed heads.
Also an optional underdrive pulley for the alternator is available and is recommended for racing use only.
