SEMA 2013: Spotlight On TSW’s New Line Of Sochi And Amaroo Wheels

IMG_2170Power Automedia stopped in at the TSW booth and they had several new offerings this year. Two of which we spotlighted showcased some special design features – the Sochi and Amaroo line. Read on for some detailed specs on this pair of slick wheels.

IMG_2167Sochi Rotary Forged Wheel

The Sochi alloy wheel is named after the Sochi Olympic Park Circuit. This is a 5.872-km circuit currently under construction in the town of Sochi, Russia. This circuit will be the third longest circuit on the Formula One calendar.

The Sochi wheel is unique because it is manufactured using a special technique called rotary forging. During this process the rim of the wheel is forged at high pressure while the wheel is spun at high speed. This in essence alters the molecular structure of the alloy greatly increasing its strength and durability.

IMG_2168What TSW ends up with is a much lighter wheel than you would traditionally see with a regular cast wheel. This appeals to the performance market of car owners looking for something that is both high on durability and road resistance without being taxing on overall weight addition.

The Sochi is available in both gunmetal with mirror cut face and matte black finishes. TSW offers the following wheel sizes – 18, 19, and 20-inch. For more details on the Sochi check out its profile on the TSW website.

The Amaroo alloy wheel is named after Amaroo Park, a motor racing circuit located in New South Wales, Australia. First opened in 1967, this 1.94-km circuit has hosted several racing competitions including the Australian Touring Car Championship, Formula Ford, and the Formula 5000.

TSW sought out to create a wheel that was aesthetically eye catching and one that maintained an engineering profile which allows for the perfect offset and fitment to be dialed in for the individual, thus the Amaroo was born.

IMG_2158Perhaps one of the freshest wheel designs we saw at the show, as Terence Scheckter of TSW explains in the video above one of the first things you notice are the floating spokes that dive into the back of the Amaroo. The gap between the Amaroo’s spokes and its rim is a subtle but beautifully executed piece of design elegance.

The Amaroo is offered in silver with a brushed face and chrome stainless lip as well as matte black. TSW offers the following wheel sizes – 18, 19, and 20-inch. For more details on the Amaroo check out its profile on the TSW website.IMG_2169
