SEMA 2019: Centerforce Clutches Shows Off New Products For 2020

A few weeks ago we had a chance to catch up with the people from Centerforce at the 2019 SEMA Show. Centerforce, The Performance Clutch company has been cranking out clutches for performance applications since the ’80s and it shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, Will Baty from Centerforce walked us through some of the new products they brought with them to the show.

“First, we have the new Triad triple-disc for late model C7 Corvettes and the 6th-gen Camaro. It’s a lightened steel flywheel – we have a unique disc assembly. Ours is much different than everyone else.”

Will actually pulled the whole thing apart for us and we got a look at just what makes it so special.

“The main drive disc has six lugs that drive each disc, and as the Triad name implies there are three discs. Each unit comes with a billet aluminum pressure plate, which is a centrifugal-assist. We currently have them available for Early ford, early Chrysler, SBC, and, of course, the LS.”

“This package, even though it’s 8.75″, it’s still capable of holding up to 1,100 foot-pounds of torque.” -Will Baty, Centerforce

“Even though this package is an 8.75″, it’s still capable of holding up to 1,100 foot-pounds of torque.”

“We also brought some items from our SST Line, which is brand new. SST stands for Solid Street Twin and is essentially our entry-level twin disc.”

“Our customers were asking for something that was a little more cost-effective so they could get into the twin disc market, without breaking the bank. So, we developed this new SST, and basically, it’s a solid hub, so there’s two discs – both organic friction on both sides – but we still use our lightened steel flywheel. So, that’s nice low inertia, and again all arp hardware. ”

“It’s a floater design that incorporates an “anti-rattle.” A lot of people push their clutch in and hear the floater rattle. Ours doesn’t do that because it’s a positive drive. It’s the strongest design and floater design because it doesn’t break. Still floats and does everything we want it to, but we don’t sacrifice any drivability. ”

It sounds like a perfect clutch for a street car – that’s for sure.

“We coupled that with our Centerforce pressure plate. It’s gold because that’s always been our entry-level color. Just like our Centerforce 1, this is our entry-level twin. This assembly will hold 920 foot-pounds of torque – AND IT COMES IN UNDER 1000 DOLLARS!” This is a quality component – we put the best of the best in there. This isn’t cheap Chinese stuff – it’s all built right in Prescott, Arizona.”

So, there you have it. A whole new product line from Centerforce, and an entry-level one at that! If you’re looking to upgrade your clutch and save some cash at the same time, definitely give the SST line a look.

Of course, if you need something milder or all the way wild, check out the Centerforce website, here.
