The automotive scene is getting to be an interesting place. Engines are finding themselves in a variety of bodies beyond what they were originally designed for. That makes finding a good-fitting set of headers to make the most of your engine a daunting task and usually results in a custom-built set of tubes. Doug Thorley Headers understands what it takes to make a quality set of headers and has designed a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kit that you can custom-order to fit the engine’s exhaust to your particular body style.
The Doug Thorley DIY kits make it possible for you or your local fabricator to build a custom set of headers for your unique needs. These kits were intended for builders that can’t find any production style headers to match their current projects. Doug Thorley Headers’ website has a drop-down menu that allows you to begin with your particular engine and build from there.
You get all the necessary collectors, J-bends, pre-formed stubs, and gaskets included in the kit. – Mike Johnson, Doug Thorley Headers
This easy-to-use setup will allow you to choose your flanges, primary tubing size, and style of headers. You’ll even have the option between the typical four-into-one, or tri-Y style of headers. We spoke with Mike Johnson, sales manager for Doug Thorley Headers about the benefits, and some other options available using Doug Thorley Headers’ DIY kits.
“We typically over-achieve on components, giving you more than you’ll need,” he says. “You get all the necessary collectors, J-bends, pre-formed stubs, and gaskets included in the kit. The tubes are made out of 14-gauge walled tubing and the collectors are already welded.”
The components are all fabricated from American-made steel and the customer has a choice of short-tube, mid-length or full-length header sets. Mike jokes that the only thing not included in the kit is the welding! For the cost of a standard set of headers, customers can now have a custom-built set of pipes to their specifications.
