Shakedown Challenger First Of Seven “Last Call” Mopars

Last week, Dodge announced the end of their muscle car ICE age. The carmaker went public and said that 2023 will be the last hurrah for the Charger and Challenger. Although a sad day for us petrolheads, Dodge will send both off with a bang. There will be seven special edition models available through the end of 2023, each introduced with no advance notice to the public. So you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled to monitor inventory at Dodge Garage.

Dodge will build 500 Shakedown Challengers with the R/T Scat Pack body and 500 more with the R/T Scat Pack Widebody. Regular models will be finished in Destroyer Gray and widebody models in Pitch Black.

As expected, the 2021 Shakedown Chally is a visual package with no mechanical upgrades. It uses the performance hardware from the R/T Scat Pack model, meaning all will come with a 485-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 and a choice between a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The modern Shakedown edition picks up where Dodge’s 1971 Challenger concept from 2016 left off. That car was an old-school E-body fitted with parts from a modern Challenger and similar livery.

Look for a shaker hood scoop, three off-center glossy black stripes of varying widths, and a single thin red stripe for accent. Red “392” badging matches the red Brembo brake calipers.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find black and red Alcantara, red stitching, and seatbelts in “Demonic Red.”  Like all “Last Call” models, it will sport an under-hood plaque christening the model as part of the final run of the Mopar pony car.

Wait, there’s more! Three heritage colors return including B5 Blue, Plum Crazy Purple, and Sublime Green, along with Destroyer Grey. There will be a total of 14 exterior color options for the 2023 Charger and Challenger. Get yours now or forever hold your peace!
