While the heat wasn’t totally unbearable at the Alameda County Fairgrounds as the customs and classics flooded into the Goodguys 23rd Summer Get-Together in Pleasanton, California it was a little on the warm side of the temperature gauge. What may have been caused by the heat wave that hit California, turnout was a bit below the norm. Regardless, while walking around the event, we were able to spot some gorgeous American gems that deserved more than a second look.
The warm locale was filled with plenty of enthusiasts, gear heads, and families, who all came to take part in the fun and festivities. No matter your tastes in all things automotive, from the loud and raucous Nitro Thunderfest to the junior circle track races, there was something for everyone.
Many of the conversations at the show, involved people making deals and debating for a bargain in the Swap Meet and Car Corral areas. Although not much for our tastes, there were even some LS-powered import cars that made an appearance at the show. The smell of savory barbecue and the refreshing ice cold drinks kept people cool as they explored the event from one end to the other.
Even with the lower-than-normal attendance, the event was littered with enough American classic iron to create an event that was nothing short of spectacular. From all-original restorations to LS-swapped customs, there were cars of all tastes parked and glistening under the sun.
Spectators poured inside the cool, air-conditioned buildings to see vendors, displays, a slew of beautiful customs and classics. Marc Meadors’ sweet yellow Camaro was on display, which garnered heavy attention in the exhibit building located next to the autocross.
Meadors’ Camaro is a full-fledged custom that stood out out for all the right reasons. Named Project G/RS, Meadors’ 1969 Camaro boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA engine and a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission. Built to race, G/RS utilizes some serious modifications that include a Moser rearend, RideTech coilover suspension kit, high performance Baer disc brakes, and a set of Forgeline GA3 wheels.
Sporting a bevy of custom body components, G/RS has custom aluminum side grills, the door handles stemmed from a Jaguar, and a center-split front spoiler that gives the front a lower, more aggressive stance. Built to complement his father’s beloved yellow ’32 Ford that resides in the Goodguys logo, Meadors aims to continue his father’s legacy with a custom that represents where hot rodding is today.
The competition was stiff on the autocross, as cars of all classifications scurried around the tightly-coned track vying for the quickest time.
We weren’t disappointed with the turnout, since there were some absolute masterpieces in sight, both indoors and out. Sparking old memories and reminiscing about the past, we heard people go back and forth with their elaborate tales about their favorite car.
