Some guys have all the luck. At least that’s how it seems. For Ryan Brutt, a fellow powerTV contributor, his luck far exceeds some of ours when it comes to tracking down amazing barn finds. But just like the notion of what goes up must come down, Brutt’s luck is not all good. This became glaringly apparent when Brutt wrote about the fifth incident on Moparts.com, an accident involving an illegal citizen, him and his 2009 Challenger.
“There was a line of cars waiting in the next lane over for a car to make a left,” Brutt said. “The guy in the Hyundai didn’t feel like waiting anymore and tried to quickly merge into my lane, while I was still in it.”
Upon getting hit, Brutt pulled over and stopped, as did the other driver. When the police arrived, Brutt’s luck didn’t get any better. “The guy presented the cop a license, that wasn’t his, nor from this state, and didn’t look like him,” Brutt said. “He wouldn’t give his name or anything.”
The driver of the Hyundai turned out to be an undocumented individual, driving someone else’s car. Fortunately, the insurance information he provided was correct for the car so Brutt is currently going through that insurance company to try to get his car fixed.
Brutt said he hopes the quote is decent because his friends’ body shop estimated the damages to the Challenger to be around $4,000 to $5,000 without checking the front alignment. “The car is drivable, but will need a front fender, drivers door and quarter panel work,” Brutt said.
This accident is not the first incident Brutt’s Challenger has been involved with. In the two years that Brutt has owned the car, the Challenger has also been driven into a garage door, had its front end grazed by a driver who ran a stop sign, rear-ended at a stop light and hit by a train.
We’ve all owned at least one “cursed” car before and know how tiring fighting with incident after incident with a prized vehicle can be. We hope that Brutt’s luck changes soon, especially when it comes to his ’09 Challenger. Look for more of Brutt’s work here in the future.
