With the 2012 race season well underway, many people were looking forward to the annual Spectre 341 Challenge set for June 15^th through the 17^th. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen business circumstances, Spectre has had to call the event off this year. While this is disappointing news, Spectre has the safety of all the Challenge’s participants in their best interest with this decision and the event will be back on and better than ever next year.

The Spectre 341 Challenge is a unique opportunity for street car owners to put peddle to the metal on a public road, testing their driving abilities and the performance of their car without having to worry about traffic and law enforcement. The event takes place on a 5.2-mile twisty stretch of Highway 341 in the mountains south of Virginia City, Nevada. On the course, competitors battle over 22 turns, steep drop offs with no safety rails, and an elevation increase of 1,216 feet, all while driving street-legal performance cars.

The event also features many other activities for participants, such as a banquet, car show, parade through down town and a “track talk.” The Spectre 341 Challenge is definitely a fast-paced, grueling competition but is set in a family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of bench racing and chilling with other car enthusiasts to go around.

While it is unfortunate that the hill climb will be cancelled this year, plans to make the 2013 event even better are under way.

“We are disappointed that we have to call off the race for 2012,” said Spectre Performance president Amir Rosenbaum in a recent press release, “but unforeseen business circumstances over the past few months meant we had to choose between cancelling the race or holding it with reduced staff, which compromises safety – and that wasn’t really a choice at all.”

He continued on to say, “We want to thank the racers and the residents of Virginia City and Silver City who have been so supportive over the past three years. We have committed to making the Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge as fun, exciting and safe as possible – so this year we have to put things on hold, but we’ll be back next year and it will be better than ever.”

Those racers that already registered for this year’s event will be contacted and receive a full refund for their entry fees. And those of you looking to compete in the next Spectre 341 Challenge have just over a year to get your car in tip-top shape for some serious competition. No excuses!
