Street Feature: Micha Vogt Races A 1941 Willys In Germany

1200-13Micha Vogt lives in Germany and races American cars. About a year ago, we took a look at his twin-turbo 1955 Chevy, this time we are taking a look at his amazing 1941 Willys. This 9.30 second capable car is also a street legal machine ready to cruise the town. “We drive it sometimes just for fun on the street or in the city,” Micha told us. “Maybe to eat an ice cream or just cruise around.”

Micha bought the car in 1999 after working on the owner for eight years. That is some serious dedication. When he had found out about the Willys, which was imported into Germany after being crashed in the US, he called the owner about five times a year until he finally got tired of the phone calls and sold Micha the car. Micha got to work and restored it to the condition it’s in now. It was already a drag car, but was wrecked some time ago, so Micha repaired the body using all steel panels, replaced the fiberglass parts, and got it set up with a new drivetrain.

1200-14

He built it with a 588 cubic-inch Mopar wedge, a Jerrico 4-speed transmission, and a Ford 9-inch rearend. He has since changed over to a powerglide automatic transmission, but everything else has remained pretty much the same.

He races his car in the German Street Eliminator series. This is unlike traditional American racing where they have to drive their car between 40 and 60 miles, stop for fuel at a regular gas station, and head to the track to race. There are no trailer queens in this type of race! Perhaps a German version or Drag Week?

1200-2Micha tells us that his favorite thing about the car is the steel body and the original frame. “I drive it in 100% steel,” Micha told us. It’s hard for us to pick a favorite feature, because everything about it is just so cool. An American 1941 Willys racing with a Mopar wedge in Germany? Yeah, that’s cool.

If you want your car or truck to be a part of our Street Feature series, all you have to do is shoot us an email and tell us about your ride and we will make it happen.
