With the Camaro ZL1 set to hit dealers this spring and the next-generation Corvette arriving in 2014, we can’t help but wonder when Ford is going to come out with their next supercar. Sure, the 2013 Mustang GT500 is set to be pretty impressive with a potent 650hp, but we want something more. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait for Ford to step up their game to see a supercar wearing the blue oval badge. According to Top Speed, The GT Guy has just released information about their latest Ford GT project created in cooperation with the original GT designer, Camilo Pardo.
Based out of South Rockwood, Michigan, The GT Guy LLC (GTG) is a speed shop that specializes in performance upgrades, repairs, maintenance and custom body modifications for the Ford GT model. In collaboration with Pardo, GTG has just come up with a highly modified ‘06 Ford GT called the Merkury 4.
The Merkury 4 started out as a regular red GT and was treated to a custom Mirrachrome paint job featuring a center stripe in fluorescent orange with a satin black pinstripe.
The new paint scheme is complimented with custom billet side clamshell vents and a clamshell center atop the molded clamshell intakes, along with a billet Ford GT fuel door. The Merkury 4 also got new kicks and sits atop HRE center-bolt rims wrapped in Michelin rubber. The Merkury 4’s custom look is capped off with a “Vintage” bumper delete kit from GTG and custom decals designed by Pardo.
The Merkury 4 isn’t just about a new look, however. The newly redesigned GT also features a polished second generation Whipple supercharger atop the car’s potent 5.4L V8, along with a GTG cold air intake system. With these upgrades, the Merkury 4 is capable of 725hp on 19 pounds of boost.
Other upgrades include ceramic coated Ford Racing catalyst eliminator pipes and Penske triple adjustable shocks with a custom lowered alignment. And no supercar would be complete without a Passport radar detector and jammer system.
We’re very impressed with the new Merkury 4. Now if only Ford would step up and introduce a successor to the GT that had similar design and performance upgrades, we’d be happy campers.
