The Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro Makes its Rounds on Power Tour

This is the actual Hot Wheel car that GM used to base their ’67 Camaro SEMA car on. However, the 1/1 scale version doesn’t have a vinyl top and looks to be a slightly different shade of blue.

Last Autumn when we were at the 2012 SEMA show, we covered the display at the Chevy booth featuring not one, but two Camaros carrying the Hot Wheels theme. The first car was a ’67, and was directly inspired by the original “Sweet 16” castings that were released back in 1968. The second was a modern 2013 interpretation of the ’67.

The 2013 would go on as a limited production car that you can currently buy at your local dealer. The ’67, however, lives on as not only a rolling tribute to that 1/64 scale car from the ’60s, but as an impressive, and fully functional street machine that’s making its rounds on the 2013 Power Tour.

Thanks to the LS3 power under the hood, it’s reliable too. GM has been persistent in promoting their E-ROD crate engine family; offering turn-key reliability, great performance, reasonable fuel mileage, and lower emissions than most popular small-block and big-block applications. In essence, it’s a 2013 Camaro SS, mechanically speaking, and just as reliable.

It has to be. It’s doing the Long Haul, covering a distance of over 1,200 miles in less than a week, starting in Arlington, Texas on June 1st, and ending up in Charlotte, North Carolina six days later. It’s the ultimate road trip; stopping along tourist sites, aftermarket parts suppliers, and hanging out with good people from all over the country. With 430 HP on tap, along with the dependable 4L65E automatic gearbox sitting behind it, this package is a winning combination that any enthusiast can rely on for many miles.
