By all accounts, comedian Kevin Hart is a big friggin’ deal. He’s starred in a bunch of movies we’ve never heard of and evidently, he’s one busy guy. He just landed a deal over at Motor Trend TV called Kevin Hart’s Muscle Car Crew, even though the last thing the world needs in another show with a bunch of geezers sitting around talking about million-dollar cars. Nonetheless, the wizards at Motor Trend think there’s room for another one, so here we are.
Hart recently posted to Instagram a pic of him with a very rare 1987 Buick GNX, a limited-production Tri-Shield made in partnership with ASC McLaren. Only 547 units were produced, and some of them have been showing up on the collector car market, selling for mucho dinero.
Every GNX was delivered with an all-black exterior and a black-over-gray velour interior. The GNX would be the perfect high-performance send-off for GM’s rear-drive G-body coupe, replaced by the disastrous all-new FWD W-Body in 1988.
It’s unclear if the GNX pictured in Hart’s Instagram post is his car. He included “Sundays are perfect for old school drives…. If you know you know,” and hung #original on the post as well. Hart most likely has deep pockets so the odds of him posting a pic of someone else’s car seem slim.
With all that celebrity stuff out of the way, the GNX pictured with Hart seems to be in pristine shape and a reminder that the 80s did indeed produce some collectible cars. Was it the low-mile GNX that sold for $275K recently? Or did Hart purchase another car? Either way, maybe the most incredible thing about this story is that ANY 80s car would sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
