For almost every car enthusiast, there is a common bond that breaks through the artificial barriers of make, model and style. For virtually anyone that loves cars, that common interest lies in driving them. Whether you race, cruise or show, driving is an inseparable part of the overall experience. Driving a vehicle that has special meaning to you only heightens the adventure.
Countless stories of ‘The Great American Road Trip’ have been offered up and, yet, we never seem to tire of them. Whether they start from the Tail of the Dragon, at Pike’s Peak or some far-flung byway, every one is as fascinating as the last. Building on this shared appreciation, the premier event of the Road Tour Express will kick off on October 11th, running through Thursday evening October 14th, when two teams will arrive at the GoodGuys show in Bowling Green, KY.
Two teams are being put together, consisting of four drivers and co-drivers. Each pair will have a one-day stint in the journey. The deal, however, is not all about covering the distance but documenting the journey.
Each team is expected to cover 300 to 400 miles before arriving in Bowling Green, so the daily mileage is not onerous. Some major companies have already got involved with Road Tour Express, including Borla, Comp cams, Holley and RideTech. The teams will receive a challenge every day, which has to be accomplished in addition to meeting up and handing off to the next team.
Provided with equipment to photograph, video and document their journey online, the challenges will provide an incentive to explore the countryside and small towns along the route to ensure an entertaining drive. Each team will be able to update a section of the Road Tour Express web site, via an iPad, and mobile wifi hot spot, with their observations and experiences directly from their vehicle.
Team members will be judged via internet vote on performance during the Road Tour Express and awarded prizes from the sponsors, according to the organizers.
Team Captains for the first event have already been selected, but future events are anticipated. You can visit the event web site to register your interest, and to watch the team results as the event progresses. Mark your calendar for Monday, October 11th to follow this unique event.
