In the interest of public service, we’d like to present a list of the Top 5 movies that have already been, or will be, released in 2011. Each movie features cool cars at a minimum, decent driving at a midpoint, and actual plots and dialogue as a highpoint. Without further ado, the 2011 list!
Movie Number 1) The Green Hornet
Release Date: January 14, 2011
Why You Care: It features a Black Beauty like no other, based on the ’65 Imperial from the old TV show and powered by a GM big block crate motor. It gets almost as much screen time as the main characters, which is a good thing, believe us.
Movie Number 2) Drive Angry
Release Date: February 25, 2011
Why You Care: It features Nicholas Cage, a good looking blonde, and a black ’69 Charger that looks exactly like the one featured in Death Proof. We’re not sure why that is, but we could care less; ’69 Chargers are cool.
Movie Number 3) Fast Five
Release Date: April 29, 2011
Why You Care: As the fifth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, this appears to be the studio cash cow that just keeps on giving. The blown black ’70 Charger is back, and we assume plenty more muscle cars, fast driving, and explosion carnage will be thrown in as well.
Movie Number 4) Cars 2
Release Date: June 24, 2011
Why You Care: The sequel to the 2006 Cars Pixar movie, this is likely the best movie on the entire list in terms of quality of production, story, and script. You may not want to admit to your buddies about how endearing this move will be, but we’ll bet you take your kids to see it 10 times before the summer is over.
Movie Number 5) Transformers 3
Release Date: July 1, 2011
Why You Care: Another cash cow franchise? You bet! This is the third installment in the Transformers series, and like the first two it will be power packed with GM product placement. Bumblebee the Camaro is back, a ’68 Chevelle is featured, and there will be more explosions in the first five minutes than during the first year of the Civil War.
