This Bagged And LS-Powered 1957 Buick Is As Clean As They Come

Taking a classic car and upgrading the drivetrain to LS-anything is a very common occurrence as of late. Even those bulbous ’57 Bufords have been enjoying the lion’s share of hot rodding both new and old. This super-black and bagged ’57 takes it all one step further and blends so many modern trends with such a vintage, chrome-riddled vibe that it took a crowd of some of the most radical rodders by surprise.

While bouncing around on ‘Tube recently, we came across this short video from a YouTuber called “EverydayImHusln.” In the two-and-a-half-minute video, Mr. Husln takes a tour of this awesome ’57 Buick with his video camera. There were a few minutes when it appeared obvious that whoever had the car there recently just purchased it (?) as information wasn’t very forthcoming and several folks tried to figure out some aspects of the build while the camera was rolling. When asked about who may have built the car, the only reply was, “Some dude in Mississippi.”

Derek’s Instagram gave us a much better glimpse of what resided under that hulking bodywork. Even the underside is done to the highest level, yet not over-done.

Well, they were right. With a little bit of social media sleuthing, we were able to find Derek Hammons’ Instagram page, where he documented some limited aspects of the car’s build. Derek identified himself as the builder and took a few pics and videos to help prove the fact.

As you can see, what Derek did was way more than anyone would expect from a home-built Buick hot rod. To paint those long, curvy body panels black only accentuates how detail-oriented Derek was while building the car. Whether you look at the exterior bodywork or the full-on custom interior, it’s plain to see that Derek has talent. Once you get past the exquisite exterior dripping of chrome, your eyes are then allowed to note the deep-dish Hot Rods By Boyd rims that adorn the wheel openings of this beautiful Buick. Inside each of those large, dished rollers resides a full set of Wilwood brakes.

The interior of this Buick is amazing. The level of detail sets a standard few can follow. As mentioned in the video, the car is "SEMA quality" but thankfully, doesn't resort to the over-built, tries-too-hard level many cars need to get noticed in those large, Las Vegas halls.

Under the hood is another study of how restraint and modern touches can come together in an understated masterpiece. There’s an LS3 residing where a Nailhead engine very likely held court at one time. Atop that modern motor from another division within GM is a new Edelbrock cross-ram LS3 intake which has been treated to a sedated, more Buick-Esque shade of gold.

As you would imagine, all the electronics and the chassis have been updated as well, and the car now chooses its ride height by air pressure, thanks to a full complement of airbags at each corner. In the end, the car has just the right amount of upgrades for us without all the “look at me” gee-gaws that somehow find themselves included in a build to this extent. Is it a hot rod? Maybe. Custom? In some sense of the term. So, what word would we use to describe this particular car? Perfect! Check out the video and see exactly what we mean. We’ll bet you’ll agree!
