Trucks haven’t always been the dominant form of transportation for those who need to move objects or materials for work. The Sedan Delivery was the popular choice as a work vehicle for different tasks. These wagons had plenty of space in the rear, and were affordable, so they were used in a variety of roles.

Jim Dunn is your classic gearhead who grew up street racing and being a fan of NHRA drag racing. Jim found his 1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery in Long Island, New York. The car had lived its previous life as a race wagon and was looking for a new home. The wagon wasn’t in the best shape, so Jim knew he had his work cut out for him to turn it into the build you see today.

Jim’s 1955 Chevy is pretty rowdy looking, and it has the power to match the over-the-top appearance. The Sedan Delivery is powered by a 1957 Chrysler 392 cubic-inch Hemi engine. Jim loved the first-generation Hemi engines, and thought it would be the perfect fit for the wagon. The engine is fairly stock, but it has some upgrades to help it make over 500 horsepower.  A TH400 transmission is bolted up behind the engine and takes care of the shifting duties.

The American Racing wheels help give Jim’s wagon its old-school race car look. Jim kept the front suspension relatively stock, but did add coil over shocks to the front. In the rear, you’ll find a Ford 9-inch rearend that works with a set of leaf springs and traction bars. The paint on the wagon is a mixture of old and new hues. Jim selected the classic Plumb Crazy shade of purple and the new HEMI Mango Orange as the dominant colors of the wagon. You’ll also find plenty of pinstripes and other graphics all over the wagon as well.
