As a car guy or girl, if you’re ever unfortunate enough to be in a wreck in your classic car, one of the first thoughts that comes to mind is the question “Is my car OK?” With any luck, your car is not severely damaged, and if it is, it only needs minor work. Unfortunately, not every classic car fairs well when involved in a wreck- leading to an insurance company taking ownership of your vehicle. This is exactly what happened recently to a ‘67 Pontiac LeMans. Thanks to Jalopnik for bringing us the news.
In June, a Lexus parked itself inside the passenger side of the LeMans, causing severe damage. Fast forward a couple months, and now the LeMans is listed on Copart.com, an insurance auction website. In order to end up for bid on the website, the owner’s insurance company had to have taken possession of the LeMans- a typical occurrence when a vehicle is totaled.

There are pictures of the offending Lexus driver, but because we don't want to send you into a murderous rant of sexist and racist epithets, we chose to print this pic instead.
With the majority of the damage done above the frame rail of the pillarless hardtop LeMans, it is no wonder that the car was totaled out. While many of us would have had a hard time giving up our beloved car, no matter how damaged, we don’t blame the owner for seeing the car now as a lost cause. We can only join Jalopnik in the hope that some parts on the LeMans can be salvaged to restore another Pontiac.
It’s a hard lesson to learn- that our classic cars are not invincible, no matter how big. We hope that this accident doesn’t deter the ex owner of the LeMans from owning and driving another classic in the future.
