Video: 1966 Impala 427 From ScottieDTV Kavalcade Of Kool

Our friend Scottie D has been bringing us some of the greatest car show videos from the southeast for several years, and we have always been impressed with his selection of cars. You won’t find Scottie D posting up too many run-of-the-mill plain Janes either. Scottie D has a great eye for rare and interesting cars, and his latest is one that we really enjoy.

ScottieD shot this 1966 Impala SS with a big-block 427 at an event that Scottie calls the “ScottieDTV Kavalcade of Kool.” As far as we are concerned, when it comes to car show videos, Scottie D is always the avalanche of awesome.

This particular 1966 Impala began life as an original SS with a 396ci big-block, a significant RPO engine for the time. The car’s owner wanted to shoehorn some more cubes in the engine bay, so he hired the crew at Big Oak Garage to drop in a 427 and add a few more goodies to the vintage beast.

Big Oak Garage in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, specializes in hot rodding vehicles built before 1973. From mild resto to the wildest custom with frame off customization, Big Oak Garage covers all the bases.

Dropping a crate 427 into the engine bay added that extra pop that Denson was looking for.

Steve Denson brought the Impala to the Big Oak crew with aspirations of a Tuxedo black 427 Impala, similar to the mid-sixties Impalas that ruled the road. What he got was a custom Imp that wasn’t an obvious custom, but a stealthy custom with parts that were available off the shelf.

The stance was achieved with Ridetech bolt on parts, which include their tubular A-arms in the front with Ridetech’s tubular control arms and cradle in the rear, with coilovers for good measure.

The wheels are Schott F10  wheels, measuring 20X8-inches on the front and 20X10-inches on the rear. Braking is performed with Wilwood calipers and rotors, bypassing the capabilities of anything that the engineers could come up with in 1966. The rearend is a 12 bolt Moser unit that was narrowed to fit the stock chassis and wheels.

When it came to modifications, the crew kept the exterior body mods to an absolute minimum. There are actually no body modifications at all. The sleeper look is in full effect with the stock trim and badging. Only the wheels give away the indication that something unique is under the hood.

This very stock appearance hides the big-block under the hood making this a true sleeper.

The interior is stock as well, except for the Classic Instruments modified gauge panel. Scotty D points out the rear seat center-speaker option for the fans of inexpensive and rare RPO stock options.

We want to thank Scottie D for all the work that he does to represent the car enthusiasts with unique and special car features. Scottie is recovering from a recent heart attack and we wish him a quick recovery and can’t wait to see him back on the trail of great cars that turn up at the car shows. Rest and get well soon Scottie D.
