Every muscle car fan knows that there is no sound like the deep rumble of a well-built engine. That powerful rattle that shakes the ground, reverberates through the air, rocks the car gently, and stirs the soul of a red-white-blue blooded American, creating an overwhelming sensation that is akin to a good old-time church revival meeting for the musclecar crowd.
Regardless whether it’s been a while since that sound pass over you like a blessing, or if you heard it just yesterday, the video above will thrill you to the bone. The video not only perfectly captures that vivid auditory announcement of power, but the delivers a visual treat asa the owner Steve Szabo does a full walk-around of his incredible resto-mod he carried out on his Dodge Dart Swinger.
Starting with the venerable Chrysler slant-six, Szabo used an Offenhauser square bore intake manifold, with mods to the engine that include a 100-mm head shave, oversize stainless valves, an 0.60-over bore, Comp Cams 264 camshaft, hardened seats, a light head porting job, and dual exhaust system with an H-pipe and two-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. The rear end is the original 7.25-inch with new Strange 3.55 gears.
If there’s any doubt that Szabo’s Swinger is right on the money, he recently won the 1st Place “Judges Choice” Trophy at the Beacon Federal Credit Union car show. For more videos from Szabo, you can check out his YouTube page, and another of his Swinger build can be seen below.
