If you remember anything from last year’s Summernats 25 in Canberra, Australia, then you may very well remember a particular gentleman by the name of Jason Rose, whose 671-blown Holden Commodore made Summernats burnout contest history.
Not only unique in the sense of hosting a scored burnout contest, Summernats 25 was a stark reminder to all of us that American muscle is a phenomenon that has extended itself throughout the most unlikely corners of the globe. This is especially true in the case of “Fast Freddy,” a pro-modded ’66 C10 pickup that’s left a drastic mark in the world of Euro drag racing. Hailing from Huddinge, Sweden, this methanol-injected pickup is fierce.
That’s because its owner, Freddy Fagerstom of the Fast Freddy Racing Team, has managed to pull-off a best elapsed time of 6.043 seconds in the radical C10, with an equally-astonishing trap speed of 231.771 miles per hour. The video above is of Fast Freddy’s first run in 2012, and last year’s epic pass was accomplished at Sweden’s own Tierp Arena.
A wild fusion of NHRA construction and “American Graffiti” patina, Fast Freddy’s blown and methanol-fed C10 is a truck that looks like your typical rat rod, but certainly doesn’t run like it. In the video, the ratty pickup spits flames and makes ferocious sounds, as it runs pass after pass at speeds not met by most specimens of old iron.
That’s because Fred Fagerstrom’s primer-gray Chevy truck is powered by a 511 big-block, making possible one 6-second pass after another for the Swedish-built, American drag truck. It’s not a Chevelle or a Camaro that will be the topic of discussion in Huddinge, Sweden, when it comes to drag racing, but the Fast Freddy Racing Team is able to take on any contender for Sweden’s own title of King of the streets, should that challenge arise!
