The Toyota Hilux, known in North America as simply as a Toyota pickup until it adopted the Tacoma name in 1995, is well known for its feats of strength and durability. They’ve also proven themselves in challenging off road situations and historically hit well above their weight class when it comes to pickup capability.
That said, doing crazy smoke signal-caliber burnouts is not typically in the Hilux wheelhouse, but that’s where the Australians come in. If it’s got four wheels and a steering wheel, someone in Australia will probably make a burnout monster out of one sooner or later.
And that’s just what’s happened to this fifth generation Hilux, which now sports a blown 540ci Chevy V8 that shoots flames out of the exhaust.
Perhaps made a little less practical for the trails with the new mechanicals, it’s certainly gained an aptitude for obliterating truck tires, as shown in this clip. The owner, Brett Battersby, literally smokes the tires right off the wheels until he’s left with molten rubber and sparking debris underneath the truck. Did we mention the suicide doors? It has suicide doors.
While the specific event which this burnout comes from isn’t specified in the video, it’s hard to imagine that “BLWNLUX” didn’t take home a trophy that night. Take a gander at the clip to see one gnarly Hilux decimate a pair of mud tires with extreme prejudice, and dig on those glowing exhaust headers too.
