Florida Georgia Line’s songs “Cruise” spent longer at the #1 position of Billboard’s “Hot Country Songs” chart than any other song in that chart’s 70 year history. You have to go all the way back to 1961 to find another song that held the #1 position for more than even 8 weeks which makes “Cruise” arguably the biggest song in this history of country music.
A song that promotes young love and cruising the back roads was destined to become a summer favorite and the video should be a natural for car enthusiasts. After all, cruise wasn’t referring to a trip around the Caribbean on a slow boat.
The music video for the song was directed by Brian Lazzaro and premiered in August 2012. In our opinion, the vehicles used in the video are a prime example of the normal cruising cars near the Florida Georgia line. The starring role belongs to a 2010 Chevy Silverado pickup which embraces one of the song’s tag lines, “in this brand new Chevy with a lift kit,” then continues later in the verse with “She hopped right up into the cab of my truck and said, Fire it up, let’s go get this thing stuck.”
That sounds exactly like what happens in the middle of July in the backroads of Georgia.
At one point in the middle of the song we see the duo singing in front of a classic 1973 El Camino with the American flag as a backdrop. If that doesn’t speak to the patriotism of Chevy and country boys, we don’t know what does.
Also shown in the music video is a 1962 Buick LeSabre at a filling station getting a gallon or two of gasoline by the song’s object of desire. If you look closely during the close up views of the cars, you will see a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1976 Chevrolet C10 Cheyenne Fleetside pickup, and one of our favorites, a 1957 Ford F100 with three lovely country gals in the bed playing cards with the band.
Watch closely at the end and you will catch a glimpse of a 1947 GMC pickup behind the duo as the play the song and dance in the garage. Finally, the avocado green Pontiac Catalina is worth waiting for near the end of the video as it cruises down the two-lane highway with the windows down.
It kinda makes you wanna roll your windows down and cruise…
