Sure, Forza Motorsport 5 with a driving wheel is a pretty immersive experience, and certainly enough to get your heart racing during a heated battle for the podium, but this guy’s rig really takes things to another level. And while there a few (very) pricey items here, you might be surprised by the fact that the majority of the components to put this setup together are pretty standard gamer fare.
In terms of displays, we have a Samsung LE40B750 40-inch LCD television. For controls, a Logitech G27 racing wheel has been retrofitted with a real OMP Trecento steering wheel for added authenticity while a Thrustmaster TH8RS handles the manual shifting duties.
The real centerpiece of this setup is the SimXperience Stage IV, a motion simulator that uses a hydraulic cradle to simulate pitch, yaw, road surface changes, wheel hop and traction loss. We’re not going to sugar coat thing here – the SimXperience rig is not cheap – but the results speak for themselves.
The game itself? It’s a free-to-play title called RaceRoom made by Swedish game developer SimBin Studios for Windows PCs. RaceRoom allows players to ”enter the world of a professional race car driver” with support for official race series like DTM, WTCC, and ADAC GT Masters. Additional tracks and cars on top of the ones included can also be purchased through the game’s online store.
In the video, our driver is piloting a RUF RT12R in a GT2 race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, duking it out with a Cadillac CTS-V.R, and the effect of it all is incredibly convincing. Now all he needs is a fan blowing 120-degree air on his face and the volume turned up three times as loud and we’d be all set.
