Video: Hear and See The GT350 and Its 8,200 RPM Engine In Action

Yesterday we brought you the world reveal of the all new SVT Shelby GT350 Mustang. We covered both the official Ford press release, and the live reveal in Los Angeles, and if you follow us on Facebook, you even got to hear the car last night.

Ford isn’t giving us all the specifics on the engine right now, all we know is that it’s a flat-plane crank 5.2 liter V8, that Ford officials say is an “all new engine” and shares very little with the Coyote in the Mustang GT. The engine will make over 500 horsepower, and over 400 ft-lbs of torque, according to Ford. There’s no other word yet on how this engine does it, though Ford has promised us a technical deep dive.

While Ford executives wouldn’t say out loud what the RPM capability of this engine is, other than “high revving”, if they wanted to keep the red-line a secret, they made an error yesterday in LA, as the instrument stack was illuminated, the tachometer clearly showed a red-line of 8,200 RPM.

Ford officials also started the car, and revved it some for the media members in attendance, that video we posted on Facebook, Monday night. Today, we’ve found B-Roll footage, posted by the guys at Mustang6g, of the GT350 driving on the track and what we assume are some desert roads in the Southwestern USA.

The story here is the sound the engine makes, although in some of the video it’s difficult to discern, the car does do several loud drive by passes, with the driver at least slightly heavy on the throttle. We have to say, this engine’s noise sound like a snarling beast, about to devour whatever is in front of it, as Jeremy Clarkson at Top Gear is so fond of saying “that’s a proper noise”.

We’re still anxious to hear this engine as it approaches red-line. We’ll also be curious to see what the aftermarket can do with this car in the years to come. We’ve heard tales of the previous generation BOSS engines pushed to well over 8,000 RPM. Could the aftermarket push the GT350 mill to over 9,000 RPM, maybe even 10,000?
