There are burnout contests, and then there are burnout contests like the one that was held at TX2K14 this past weekend. When you’re throwing down a cool thousand bucks for people to burn the hides off the rims, you’re bound to get someone who just doesn’t know when quitting time is – like the owner of this GTO.
The car’s got a nice healthy rumble and that oh-so-prominent Pro Line Racing sticker on the quarter-window, leading us to believe that there’s plenty more under the hood than the stock 6.0L LS2 making 400 horsepower – or the owner just likes stickers.
An insane level of abuse is applied to the hides on this hotrod – from the glowing rear rotors to the insane amount of smoke produced over one minute and 19 seconds of burnout, by our count – until the big boom at the end, which very nearly takes off one cameraman’s head in a near-death experience as the tire becomes a multi-piece projectile.
The Illinois license plate leaves us to believe that the owner of this car will be none too happy at the sight of the repair bill on this car. As bright-red as that driver’s side brake rotor was, it could not have been fun to drive that thing home for five minutes, let alone the hours and hours of driving. And don’t even get us started on the pool of coolant left behind…
We have a feeling that the tally on this one will end up substantially higher than the measly thousand bucks – which he didn’t even win. The winner – a guy with an old-school 340 Dodge Demon – was willing to set his car on fire to take home the title.
