Shoehorning a Tremec transmission into an early Mustang is a task in itself, but our friends at Hurst Driveline Conversions have made the process much easier thanks to its Tunnel Patch Kit for all ’64-’66 Mustangs (PN 69530001) fitted with a TKO 5-speed manual transmission. In the video above, our friends at HDC show us how easy it is to install one of its tunnel patch kit on an early Mustang – as the kit is necessary to achieve the proper driveline angle with a TKO 5-speed manual transmission.
The kit features a custom-fit 18 gauge steel patch panel and uses a weld-in tunnel brace, as well as a full scale template for a quick and easy cutout.
“If you want to install a modern overdrive transmission in your classic car, sometimes you’ve gotta cut,” said Matthew, Kehoe Digital Marketing Manager for Hurst Driveline Conversions.
“We understand that the task of hacking into the floor or firewall of your prized possession can be a bit nerve-racking. Our goal is to make sure that the job of installing a Tremec TKO or T-56 Magnum transmission is as simple and straight-forward as possible. In the video above, our engineering team walks through the process of opening up a ’64-’66 Ford Mustang trans tunnel in order to make room for a TKO 5-speed manual transmission. From laying down the template to patching up the project, this clip should help to calm the fears of those who want a few more gears.”
