We live in a world where in most cases, more horsepower is better. That’s why the latest generation Camaro SS comes straight from the factory with a 6.2 liter LT1 V8 derived from Chevy’s flagship vehicle, the Corvette. That engine boasts a powerful 455 horsepower and makes the ’16 Camaro SS capable of a 4.0-second 0-60 run when equipped with GM’s 8-speed automatic transmission.

Some enthusiasts however, crave more than the factory would give them. The guys at Redline Motorsports understand that craving to go fast.

That’s why the company is currently developing the world’s first twin turbocharger kit for the ’16 Camaro SS. The guys have learned a lot from the LT1 engine, working with it previously in the C7 Corvette. They’ve taken that knowledge and applied it to its sixth-gen Camaro test mule, and it’s paid off tremendously. During a recent dyno session at the Florida based company, the Camaro laid down a phenomenal 657 horsepower and 633 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels, eclipsing the current generation C7 Z06 in horsepower in the process. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the company says, “that’s just the first of three phases planned for this turbo kit.”

Phase 2 has already begun on the Redline Motorsports ’16 Camaro. After upgrading the entire ignition system with MSD Performance components, the next upgrade will commence with a fuel system teardown, as it looks like the factory fuel system has been maxed out. It will be interesting to see what approach Redine takes to solving the direct-injection fueling issue, we look forward to reporting on it.
