There are times at the drag strip when you see a car rip off a number and it just makes you go “huh, didn’t see that coming”. From a distance a car might look like just a run of the mill 12- or 13-second beater, and then it lays down a single digit pass. The Rotorua Import Pro Shop (RIPS) car in this video may look like a wagon with a loud exhaust, but this thing is a stone cold killer at the track.
The RIPS shop, based out of New Zealand, is no stranger to the drag racing world. This shop has built some amazing cars and parts over its history, and RIPS also holds records in New Zealand for the fastest street Skyline, Japanese street car, Pro Import on gas, 240z and RB30 motor. The shop specializes in RB series motors that can be stuffed into anything two wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The crew at RIPS even had a nasty front engine dragster sporting one of their beastly little motors. That’s why it really is no surprise this Nissan Stagea wagon is capable of running in the eights.
Now the build of this Nissan has been nothing short of amazing. RIPS used tons of their incredible custom made parts on this car throughout the building process. A custom RIPS intake plenum plumbed with a six-port nitrous fogger system tops the RB30 motor. A sewer pipe sized five-inch dump pipe that sports a merged waste gate pipe is used to keep this car street legal! A custom made 1500 HP fuel system has been implemented to keep the car fed and happy…all of this along with the fully built, all-wheel drive transmission that’s tucked nicely into the Stagea wagon’s chassis.
The car is teched and certified to run in the Top Street class. RIPS is gunning to set some records and hurt some feelings this season, putting down over 1,300 HP to the wheels. As you can see in the video this car is a total handful to drive at full tilt!
