Last Friday the head of Chrysler’s SRT program Ralph Giles tweeted this teaser shot of the all-new Viper GTS-R getting unloaded for its track debut. That debut was this weekend, as the SRT team took the Viper GTS-R to the Carolina Motorsports Track for a shakedown run in what we hope is the first of many successful laps around race courses.
The SRT team made sure to document everything, going so far as to install an on-board camera to capture the action, which we can now share with you.
Driving the Viper GTS-R on the Carolina Motorsports Track for the first time was Marc Goossens, who said the Viper GTS-R responded in a “very positive way”. While there wasn’t any unexpected drama, the purpose of this test is to feel out the new Viper and ensure that everything is working as was intended. This way when the Viper GTS-R makes its American Le Mans Series debut later in the season, all the bugs should be worked out.
The too-brief video doesn’t give away much in terms of what we can expect when the Viper GTS-R finally hits the track for real. Judging from the video though, and Goossens comments, the SRT team got the handling down, and that 8-liter V10 should have no trouble cranking out enough horsepower. Turn up the volume to really enjoy this video to its fullest extent.
