Every person that builds a street/strip car wants a vehicle that won’t be miserable to drive to a show or take on a cruise, and be able to make some passes at the track. A transmission that doesn’t zing the engine to the moon with RPM plays a big role in this, and the 4x Four-Speed unit from TCI is great at keeping the RPM in a manageable range. In this video, we learn how easy it is to install one of these four-speed automatic transmissions.

The 700R4 version of the 4x Four-Speed transmission is a fully mechanical transmission that doesn’t require any type of electronics to function. TCI also has a 4L80E-based version that can use a TCI transmission controller or an OEM controller from GM. Both of these transmissions have an overdrive gear with lock-up, so they’re perfect for street/strip cars, and they can handle up to 750 horsepower, depending on which version you select.

TCI offers the 4x Four-Speed transmission in a package for GM, Ford, and Dodge engines. These packages include the transmission, a flexplate, the correct bellhousing, hardware, and other items. This takes all of the guesswork out of getting the parts you need for the 4x Four-Speed to fit your application — you just need to select the horsepower level of transmission you want or need.

The 4x Four-Speed transmission will come with written instructions from TCI, but the company wanted to take things a step further and created this installation video.
