Foreign borne super cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo, the McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron, and others traditionally aren’t the quickest cars or the best-handling of cars in the international automotive pool, but thanks to their craftsmanship and their exclusivity, they pack a price tag dwarfs better-performing vehicles. Although there are certainly cars from domestic automakers like the Corvette ZR1, the Shelby GT500, Dodge Viper, and even the Cobra Jet that can hang with or even take an imported super car behind the woodshed for a fraction of the cost, there’s still a fascination amongst car aficionados with these luxury sports cars.

Now, despite their performance that doesn’t quite match up with their cost, with a little extra cash infusion, these foreign marvels can become absolute monsters. And a little cash infusion shouldn’t be too taxing, because after all, if you can afford a quarter-million to a million dollar-plus car, you can probably afford a custom engine build and a couple of turbochargers.

If you’ve spent any time on YouTube browsing the more popular car videos, you’ve most likely seen the work of Underground Racing. Basically, if it’s an insane Lamborghini build, it probably passed through the hands of the Underground crew. One of their latest projects is this Twin Turbo Gallardo for customer Ray Hofman that pumps out over 1,750 rear wheel horses. Said Hofman at the beginning of the project: “Do anything you want to it! As long as it drives like a street car and is the baddest Gallardo on the planet!”

After the build was complete, Underground Racing took the car to the Rockingham Dragway to test the launch control functionality in case the car was ever shipped to Russia for timed one-mile events. Initially, the sixty-foot times were all that was of importance to the Underground staff, but with a car this powerful, the urge to make a full 1/4 mile pass was something they couldn’t resist. The result was rather historic. And jaw dropping. Jaw dropping enough to rewind it a couple of times to make sure that really just happened.

With the launch control engaged to keep the tires planted, the 1.5X sixty-foot time is certainly nothing to write home about, but once all of those 1,750 horses kick this badass Gallardo in the rear, lost time gets made up in a hurry. Just 8.35 seconds later, it’s all over. At the stripe, the car reaches 181.48 mph, and that’s just at the bottom of fourth gear. This is a six-speed car mind you, so there’s no telling what it will top out at over a timed mile, but we’re drag racers, and we’re more astounded by the elapsed time.

As part of the “Race” package that Underground Racing put into this Lambo, it features their exclusive carbon/carbon clutch, a full billet differential, Helix Billet 1st-6th gear set and final drive gears, and a set of Hoosier 335/30/18 Drag Radials. That, on top of the twin turbochargers and other engine work they’ve done to make this kind of horsepower.
