Let’s be real here. The Aussies, they know how to do it right when it comes to GM vehicles and modifying them. Just like here in the USA, Australia has a huge following behind their version of GM cars, like this 1974 Holden Monaro. The video above is brought to us by Fullboost via YouTube, and this Monaro is an absolute beast.
The owner of this turbocharged LSx swapped Monaro is named Wayne, from Melbourne, Australia. His ’74 Monaro lays down the hammer with 8-second quarter mile passes, and that’s in full street trim. So how does Wayne do it, you ask? Well, we’re about to find out.
When you have an 8-second car, you gotta have some serious components to pass the competition. Components such as: a Callies crankshaft, Oliver Racing connecting rods, JE forged pistons, AFR cylinder heads (and a solid roller turbo camshaft), all help to keep the strength and compression ratio in-check for the Garrett GTX55mm turbocharger to feed as much air as possible through the Monaro’s huge front-mount intercooler.
Other upgraded components include a custom 4-inch to dual 3-inch turbo-back exhaust system, a TH400 transmission built by Preston Automatics, exiting to a LMS sheet metal 9-inch differential with Truetrac 3.2:1 rear-end gears and 35-spline axles. The car is also tuned to use E-85 fuel.
This is an incredible build with some great potential, both for high performance on the track, and for a little fun on the street. Interested in learning more about this ’74 Monaro? Check out Fullboost on YouTube.
