Video: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe Motivated By A Viper Powerplant

Lead

Right away we noticed the recessed lights and custom worked grill on this street rod.

While it sounds like a name straight from a redneck trailer park, the “Special Deluxe” was actually a premium car built by Plymouth from 1946 through 1950. Deluxe was the model, “Special Deluxe” was the trim level, which was top of the line.

Scotty D is a hardcore Hot Rod enthusiast that started his own YouTube channel over three years ago. The purpose was to share some of the neat cars that he was finding at car shows, on the street… wherever. To his credit, Scotty has really done a great job at being an ambassador to the Hot Rod culture and introduced a lot of unique project and show car builds to enthusiasts from his videos. This one is no different.

Scotty D even points out the small detail like the Viper name in the airbrushed stripes down the side. The engine is really shoe-horned into the engine bay. It's clearly visible how far back the firewall had to be recessed to accommodate the bigger mill.

Scotty found this interesting blend of an old 1947 Plymouth, which has become a recognized classic, that has been melded with the modern V10 Dodge Viper engine. An interesting mash-up in anyone’s book. This car is obviously a high quality show car, built by a top notch custom/resto crew. We can’t tell you much more about the car other than Scotty D found it at the Street Rod Nationals in 2014 at Louisville, Kentucky.

interior

The interior is just as trick as the outside of this rod.

You just have to soak it in with your eyes as Scotty takes a 360-degree view around the vehicle. If you are like us, you will enjoy Scotty D’s commentary along with the video work.

By the way, Scottie D has been so successful with his YouTube channel that he has his own website at ScottieDTV.com. The guy has some great car videos and even posts some videos of his second favorite hobby, cooking. He sells some apparel with his site’s name on it, so if like what this dude does for the car culture, you might consider buying a Scotty D TV shirt or hoodie.
