Videos: ’11 392 SRT8 Runs Mid-12s; Dynos 420 RWHP Stock

Dodge boss, Ralph Gilles, didn’t waste any time getting the recently announced 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition out to the racetracks to strut its stuff. A Dodge media event at Infineon Raceway gave participants the chance to see what the newest Challenger was capable of.

The video below shows the Challenger SRT8 392 tuning in a respectable 12.44 @ 110.72 performance in as-delivered condition, including the street tires. The new 392-cid HEMI V8 is reported to deliver 470 horsepower and 470 ft-lb of torque and would be traction limited by the street tires. With just a set of drag radials, this hot coupe should be eminently capable of high 11-second runs without breaking a sweat.

For those more interested in challenging the twisties, the SRT group has recalibrated the suspension geometry to improve balance, cornering ability and steering responsiveness. Quicker steering ratios and negative camber settings all around improve the Challenger’s capacity for high-speed corner-carving. The second video below shows what kind of fun is possible on a road course.

The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 will be available with either a standard five-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick or an optional Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission, first offered on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10. Production of the Inaugural Edition model is limited to 1492 units.

Road Course

As Dodge is currently running their national HEMI Highway Tour with in the ’11 Charger R/T and 392 Challenger, they made a stop at National Speed Inc. in Wilmington, NC. There, the newly minted SRT8 went up on the dyno and cranked out 420.22 rwhp and 419.95 ft-lbs at the rear wheels! While the loss between flywheel hp and rwhp is always significant, this hefty dyno result has us pretty dang excited. Enjoy below!
