We have recently learned that Whipple Superchargers is in the midst of testing and developing a supercharger package for the Gen V L8T engine. The package will use Whipple’s Gen 5 3.0-liter screw-type supercharger and will be a direct bolt-on for the gas-powered HD line of trucks from GM. We’re told an R&D vehicle is on-site, and most of the design work is just about finished. Hopefully, this means we’ll be seeing the big 3.0-liter screw charger in the hands of enthusiasts very soon.

Although the L8T has yet to really take off in popularity among LS/LT enthusiasts, we are seeing the aftermarket building momentum in its support of what could be the next big powerhouse GM engine. Its strengthened and robust engine block and its forged factory crankshaft make the L8T the perfect candidate for modification to increase horsepower. We’ve already seen one example of an L8T utilizing the stock block and crank to make over 2,000 horsepower. So it’s no surprise really that Whipple chose the L8T as the next engine to develop a complete package for.

Whipple’s 3.0-liter supercharger using its Gen 5 technology has shown to be more than capable of producing power well into the four-digit range. Unfortunately, at this time, horsepower figures have not been released on this package. Like Whipple’s other Gen 5 packages, this one will have a 112 mm inlet, oversized intercooler, six-rib belt system, and included calibration for a worry-free installation.

This package will be available for 2020-2022 GM HD trucks. So it’s perfect for either building a stout single-cab sleeper or making your truck pull your car hauler easier. For my own curiosity, I can’t wait to see what people will swap Whipple-supercharged L8Ts into. We will be sure to bring you a follow-up article as soon as we know more about this package.
