There’s “cool”, and there’s “COOL!”

Rich Mehas’ 1966 Coronet is definitely shaping up to be the latter. Rich commissioned the crew at LP Racing to overhaul his Mopar, and if these in-progress photos are any indicator, the end product is going to be a grand slam!

10689831_880424675323161_920045418682320873_nThe body is almost all original except for a few minor, but very effective, cosmetic tweaks from the craftsmen at LP Racing. It’s often said it’s the small things that add up, and in this case, that’s absolutely the case. The custom tear-drop shaped exhaust outlets, the subtle changes around the grille, the pebble-pushing stance are just a few of the little tweaks that add up to one badass hotrod.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a pair of Precision 88mm snails cramming chilled air through the custom-designed intercooler and into the Proline-built 540 inch big block Mopar adding to the ‘wow’ factor. The powerplant is built around a Keith Black block and a pair of CNC’d Indy Cylinder Heads and features a dry-sump oiling system and a full complement of Jesel bits in the valvetrain. Backing the musclebound Mopar engine is a Rossler 210 XHD transmission and ProTorque converter, sending power rearward via a custom carbon driveshaft.

Rich will be able to keep tabs on the engine functions via a 10410797_812427558789540_799984032315345880_nRacepak display mounted in the custom dash, while a Hyperaktive boost controller actuates the TurboSmart wastegates. Preliminary goals for the Coronet are lofty: drive the car anywhere you’d want to go on AND run in the sevens on 91 octane, all without turning a single bolt on the car when going from street to strip. It will certainly be a feat for the ages if Mehas and LP Racing are able to pull it off, and it will sure be fun watching them try!
