Wild One: LS-Swapped 1962 Volvo Amazon

If there’s one thing I love about the world of LS swaps, it’s the number of unique cars that come to light. To be honest, I have always been a die-hard Chevrolet enthusiast and have owned just about every Camaro out there. While I have built some rear-wheel-drive imports, I never ventured too far from my roots. I can tell you just about every difference between generations of General Motors products over the years, but imports are a gray area for me. However, the LS swap movement is changing that as more and more enthusiasts swap modern powerplants into rare and unique vehicles.

This ’62 Volvo is a bag of mixed bolts with a Corvette engine, Camaro seats, Corvair bumpers, Acura air dam, and TESLA wheels.

The latest convert that we’ve found, thanks to Hoonigan Autofocus, is this stunning 1962 Volvo Amazon that is owned and built by Shant Yazijian of Bells and Vaughn. While the car started as a basic restoration, things quickly got out of hand as the build progressed, which is evident by the LS swap. And this swap was no easy task. In order to nestle the LS in between the fenders of the ’62, Yazijian had to move the firewall back and scoot the inner fender wells out to make room for the sizable V8.

In the video, you can see the car carving up the mountain with enough power to make Volvo purist question why they have yet to LS swap their vehicle.

Other modifications include a GM 10-bolt rear end with 2.73 gears, TESLA Model 3 wheels, 1960 Corvair bumpers, and an Acura front air dam. On the interior, Yazijian used the front and rear seats from a 2010 Camaro SS, which he purchased for $250. Yazijian also used a Chevrolet big-block bell housing to connect the Borg-Warner T10 transmission to the LS engine. The car’s suspension is nothing exotic, with just the use of lower springs, larger sway bars, and Bilstein shocks. Overall this concoction of factory and performance automotive parts is the perfect mix for this little Volvo.

Yazijian states in the video that he was never a Volvo guy per se, but he really loves how nimble this combination is and that you can cruise it. We love the fact that we ran across a vintage Volvo that we’ve never known to exist with a host of random parts and an LS swap, and it rips. It may be time to add a vintage Volvo to the garage soon.
