Car collectors come in every shape and size, as do the collections themselves. From AMCs to Zondas, diehard enthusiasts will collect any and every piece of memorabilia attached to their favorite brand. For the legions of Shelby enthusiasts out there who will never own an authentic Shelby automobile, the next best thing might just be an authentic, licensed diecast replica, which these days can get surprisingly detailed.
With 2015 being the 50th anniversary of both the Ford Mustang and the Shelby GT350, the tuning house has launched something special to add to your Shelby collection. Shelby American has unveiled a 1:18 scale diecast model of the winningest Shelby GT350 ever, the #23 car of Charlie Kemp that won 32 races in 1968 and 1969, including 17 straight wins. Also known as the “Million Dollar Champion” after the restored race car was sold at auction last year for a cool $1,000,000, this unique Shelby GT350 also bore Shelby’s signature on the door jamb and roof, cementing its historical significance.
While the 1:18 diecast model only bears Shelby’s commemorative signature, it does have Kemp’s authentic signature, as well as individual numbering. With just 350 of the $149.99 diecast models being made, it’s a rather affordable piece of Shelby memorabilia as well. Buyers will also get a commemorative booklet personally autographed by Charlie Kemp. The booklet includes vintage racing pictures as well as modern photos of the restored car, and a brief history of #23 Shelby GT350 as well.
The diecast model is authentic down to the last detail, including replication of Shelby’s signature. Just as all Shelby Mustangs are built to exacting standards, so is this limited production collectible. It’s authenticity at an affordable price, and it’s available at the Shelby store now. Are you going to pick one up?
