You Can Own A “Street Outlaws” Car

Reading the headline, you may be thinking, “is it Goliath, or maybe the Crow, or even the Fireball Camaro?” Well, not quite. While this car lacks the fame of the aforementioned, this one did indeed belong to “405” street-racing royalty.

Texan Mark Molina purchased this 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS from Chris “Kamikaze” Day in November, a few months after filming for the now-airing new season of “Street Outlaws,” which features a whole array of new street-driven muscle cars and pickups just like this one. The car was a perfect fit for Day as he and his 405 brethren returned to their roots with real-deal street cars: factory interior, a drivable engine combination, and classic American muscle looks.

The car features power from a 508-inch big-block Chevrolet with all forged internals, with Trick Flow 360 aluminum cylinder heads, and a solid roller camshaft. A Pro Systems carburetor is paired up with an Induction Solutions plate nitrous system adding extra oomph. The engine makes 700 rear wheel horsepower on motor, and 914 on the sauce, using 91 octane pump gas. Hooker headers lead back to a full exhaust system that dumps just before the rearend. A Holley digital dash delivers all the vitals, as the driver sits nice and cushy in the full interior, stock-style interior car.

A 4L80E transmission and PTC lockup converter send that power back to a built Ford 8.8 rear with 3.73 gears and 35-spline axles, with C-clip eliminators installed. It all rides on new Weld Wheels and Mickey Thompson Tires. The car sports tubular upper and lower control arms both front and rear, an anti-roll bar in the rear, and QA1 double-adjustable shocks all the way around.

Molina says Day bought the Monte much the way you see it, and as it then appeared in the first episode of the new season and in subsequent episodes that have not yet aired on the Discovery Channel. “He said that night was his first night actually driving the car,” Molina shared. “The only work they did was tune it for the nitrous. I got it with the nitrous tune, so we tuned it back to motor and freshened up the gaskets, oil, spark plugs, and other things. The previous owner (before Chris) made a 10.40 pass with it on motor before they got kicked out for not having a roll cage.”

Molina, who owns Hub City Hot Rods and the website Texasdragracing.com, has the car listed for $38,500 ready to rip.
