In order to compete in the muscle car era, Buick had to stray from their tradition sedan styles to come up with performance models. The Grand Sport, or GS, was one of Buick’s iconic creations that has maintained its extreme muscle car status for decades. One of the most powerful Buick GS cars, a ‘70 Stage 1, will be gracing the auction block at an upcoming Mecum auction. If being one of the biggest and “baddest” isn’t enough to spark your attention, this particular GS is one of two factory exhibition cars created by the Buick Motor Division.
The Buick GS comes equipped with a 455cui, 360hp V8 engine, an option that came about after GM lifted their ban on 400-plus-cubic inch engines for the 1970 model year.
Because it was manufactured with the Stage 1 package, this GS has a hotter cam, revised carburetor and bigger valves compared to the non-Stage 1, 455 models. Because it is a factory show car, the GS has special Fireglow Pearl paint and crystal clear glass.
It even comes with experimental seatbelts in its 95-percent original white interior.
If you’re interested in bidding on this pristine factory show GS, make sure to attend the St. Charles Mecum auction on September 17th. The GS will cross the auction block that Saturday at 1:40p.m. We’re sure this car will get tons of attention and bring a pretty hefty price. We hope its new owner takes the GS to car shows so that Buick and muscle car enthusiasts alike can enjoy this rare factory exhibition car.
