Besides a rear-engine setup, one might not see a lot of similarities between the Chevrolet Corvair and the Porsche 911. But these days, car guys are getting more and more creative, attempting to think outside of the box and come up with some unique and inspiring creations that make us mere mortals say “Wow!”
This Chevy Corvair with a Porsche 933 engine and all-wheel drive system is just such a vehicle. With double the power and all four wheels spinning, is this classic Corvair the ultimate sleeper?
As Hooniverse tells it, a fellow by the name of Alan took a 3.6 liter air-cooled engine from a Porsche 933 (which is the internal name given to the Porsche 911 models made between 1993 and 1998) and matched it to the front end from a 964. This air-cooled engine carries on the tradition of the Corvair’s own air-cooled, rear-engine setup…but with more than twice the horsepower.
And judging from the pictures, this conversion was done right. The Porsche interior has been ported over, and supposedly both the heating and air conditioning units work as intended. Basically, this is a Porsche in a Corvairs body, and we think that makes for a damn cool car. Do you agree, and if not, what engine would you stick in the back of a Corvair?
