Aftermarket Mustang tuners aren’t known for being a progressive bunch. After all, building a life and business around the Ford Mustang, all this talk of smaller engines and fuel efficient cars can seem scary. But while some may fight the tide of a future that embraces smaller, more-efficient engines and cars, others are turning to new technologies as a way to stay ahead of the proverbial curve, as it were.
Saleen Automotive recently announced that it would be tuning a high-performance version of the Tesla Model S electric car. If you’ve seen the Tesla Model S take on a Corvette Stingray, you know this electric car means business, and we can’t wait to see what happens after Saleen gets a hold of it.
So far Steve Saleen has decided to keep the dirty details under wraps, though we have a few different scenarios envisioned. While getting more power out of the 85 kWh battery pack or pair of electric motors might be difficult, there’s room for an additional pair of electric motors in the front trunk area. Another option could be to leave the drivetrain alone, and instead focus on areas like handling and style.
It will be awhile yet before we get to see what Saleen has for the American-made Tesla Model S, but it certainly shows a forward-thinking attitude in regards to the 21st century of performance cars. After decades of big-displacement V8s dominating so many aspects of the automotive world, new technologies like EVs and hybrids are starting to mature and keep pace.
Don’t believe us? That’s fine, but perhaps Steve Saleen can sway your mind once he’s worked his magic on the Model S.
