The American Motor Company, or AMC, has always been the “other” automaker when compared to the Big Three. That isn’t to say they didn’t produce some amazing automobiles. Quite the contrary, AMC produced some top notch pony cars and muscle machines during the 1960’s, but by the late 70’s the company was on its last legs. Today, AMC’s are few and far between, though that hasn’t stopped some people from modifying them beyond recognition.
Behold, the ’68 AMC Javeling 4×4 Mudder. Autoholics came across this AMC abomination on Craigslist, where it is for sale for just $3,000. We’re not exactly sure how we feel about this beast.
Admittedly, about the only thing AMC left on this creation is the ’68 Javelin body, which looks to be in decent shape despite the punishment it has surely endured.
Under the hood is your standard fare Chevy 350 engine, itself sitting on the frame of a ’78 ¾-ton Chevy pickup. The high-ride sits on 38-inch mudder tires and the suspension has been jacked up about six-inches. That’s a lot of lift for an old pony car.
Of course, what mudder is complete without a rollcage, aftermarket headers, and a custom exhaust system? The Javelin has all of these and, amazingly, this mudder appears to be street legal. We know, it sounds insane…but can you imagine showing up to work in one of these? That’d be one way to get the cute secretary’s attention…
