There can only be one first, whether you’re talking man on the moon or the first in line for the next Harry Potter movie. In the case of Funny Cars, the title of “first” belongs to the car known as the “Super Mustang.” And yet despite being a car of historical significance, the saga of the Super Mustang was one of victory, loss, and obscurity for decades before finally being rescued by Bob Schramm in the 90’s.
And now this important part of Mustang history is being put up for sale on Hemmings Autoblog, complete with show trailer and website, for $327,000.
To catch up on the detailed history of the Super Mustang, check out our feature story from last year. The abbreviated version goes something like this. Ron Pellegrini built the Super Mustang after failing to convince Ford to support his efforts. He even founded a fiberglass company, whose first job was to build a fiberglass Mustang body and fit it on a Chrysler roadster shell.

Bob Schramm, owner of the Super Mustang, passed away earlier this summer. His prized car is now up for sale.
Powering the Super Mustang was the classic drag racing engine, the 392 HEMI. It was sold, and lost during the 1970’s, and uncovered by Bob Schramm in the 90’s. After a lot of back-and-forth, Schramm finally bought the car, and restored it to how it would have been back in Pellegrini’s day. Since then, the car has been featured in numerous magazines, websites, and car shows as Bob crisscrossed the country with this historical Mustang.
Unfortunately, Bob passed away earlier this summer, and his family has decided it is time to part with the Super Mustang and hopefully find it an equally loving home. In addition to the car, the purchase also comes with a show trailer and the website dedicated to the Super Mustang. Hopefully the new owner will keep up Bob’s tradition, and share this piece of history with the rest of the world. We’re sure that’s what Bob would have wanted.
