We think it is fairly safe to say that most of you reading this article like to go fast. We share those feelings, being big fans of all things speed-related. America is truly a mecca of the go-fast attitude, and no place better exemplifies those feelings than the Bonneville Salt Flats. This was the home of record-setting way back when hot rodding was just in its infancy, and to this day people make the pilgrimage to this automotive hotbed of enthusiast fever to race their cars down the salt race track.

Depth of Speed put together this brief but beautiful video that looks into this American sport, and the people who keep it going year in and year out.

The history of racing at the salt flats goes back as far as 1912, but it wasn’t famous until Ab Jenkins and Malcolm Campbell competed for land speed records on these salt flats. Since then, its been a mecca of American hot rodding, despite the high cost of running a record-breaking car. People come from all over the world to experience the Bonneville Salt Flats, and this five-minute video really captures the spirit of the flats; speed.

More than that though, it is about the camaraderie, raising the bar, and working together to just go a little bit faster. It’s unique in such a competitive sport to see teams working together as such. And it’s a place that best be on every auto junkie’s bucket list. We’ll get there…some day.
