In the automotive aftermarket, sometimes the best way to develop new products is simply by customer request. This was the case for Classic Dash from Carson City, NV and a customer doing a 1968 Barracuda build. They are displaying their wares here at the 50th SEMA show.
President Greg Wambold, has been manufacturing reproduction dashboards for high performance applications for 10 years. “We take an original dash and laser scan it. Then we do the same for the gauges and marry the two and develop the tooling. We then provide the wiring harness which slices right in to the original harness, which is really simple to install.”
When a customer came calling with a unique request with a volume based upside, Wambold and Classic Dash answered the call. “A gentleman called and said, ‘I have a ’68 Barracuda build we are doing – do you have anything that would work?’” Explained Wambold, “I said no, but I would like to do that dashboard. Can you send me your dash and I will create one and send you back the original.”
Classic Dash sent him the new one. The customer just raved about the fit, finish and look. They have sold a number of them since.
