Case of the Mondays: A Bad Truck Makes For Good Laughs

Most of us have had to suffer through at least one awful vehicle in our life. For some unexplainable reason, some vehicles just suck, and these days people seem less and less interested in taking care of their cars, and when they get passed on to the new owner, these problems can crop up one after another, driving even the most determined mechanic to the brink of madness. While hunting for winter beaters on Craigslist, we came across this advertisement that can only be described as a gut-busting account of when bad cars fail, over and over and over again.

The vehicle in question is a ’97 Ford F-250 extended cab 4×4. An American truck! How bad can an American truck possibly be? Apparently, very bad, as the seller lists under the “good” category the door panels, tires, and the working radio. “From 50 ft, it looks pretty darn good.”

So what about the bad? “Where do I start?” says the seller. According to this disgruntled owner, “I had to add around 200 lbs of structural steel to the rear frame after I discovered how rotten it was. My discovery was by dropping the spare on RT 84 and wiping out 4 cars.” An expensive discovery indeed! How about the engine? “The engine is running on at least 5 cylinders, I believe. I used it that way to plow. The exhaust is rotten, and no one will fix it.”

But wait, it gets worse! “ The power steering lines leak like a sieve, and the brake lines are rotten as well. The tranny is stuck in 4×4 low, which was fine by me for plowing my driveway. So, this piece of crap, the worst vehicle I have ever purchased (Pelis in Northampton, a pox on him) only goes in a straight line very slowly and loudly.” And to add insult to injury, “Also, you don’t get the plow, my neighbor does.”
