A Hot Rod Dragster With Street Manners? Yup!

While many of us long to drive hot rod as a daily driver, few of us are prepared to deal with what driving an old car requires. Fewer still can cope with driving a car every day that is also set up as a legit drag racer. However, there are those that can deal with the stiff suspension, unmuffled engine, and lack of amenities that comes with driving a dragster. Other people might say “To hell with that” and build a video that is as comfortable as it is fast.

We stumbled across this rare custom oddity over at Hemmings that began life as a 1934 Ford. A car that bridges the gap between hot rod and drag racer, street car and race car. It is a ‘34 Ford, true, but there is no other hot rod on the planet quite like this one. A bold claim, but…well, just look at the damn thing and you tell us, have you ever seen a car as wild as this? Even wilder, it is perfectly at home driving on the road or the drag strip, claims the seller.

This 3-window coupe was built with both street driving and drag racing in mind. The design was specially made to give the driver a clear view of the road ahead, while stretching out the body to allow it to hook better at the drag strip. True, it looks kind of ridiculous, but the result supposedly allows for a street-driven car with serious drag racing credentials. To our critical eyes, it sort of looks like a ’34 Ford tried to eat a dragster, and it got stuck halfway down.

The aforementioned credentials include a 354 cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine with a Weiand blower and Hilborn injection. More impressive is the fact that the engine runs on premium unleaded gasoline, and makes over 650 horsepower. The headlights pop up or down, to allow for better aerodynamics, and this rod comes with power windows, power locks, and even usable trunk space, proving that it really might be a road-worthy drag rod.

However, the asking price of $350,000 means most of us can only dream about owning it and testing this theory. But we certainly think this car is inspirational in the way it bridges the gap between street rod and drag racer. What do you think?
